Ben, hit the diamonds with a great attitude and stepped up to the role with authority. He is a 14-year-old Walnut Grove Secondary School student, and began his umping career in 2022, taking the Level 1 exam and both Level 1 and Level 2 practical sessions. In discussing why he decided to pursue the umpire role with North Langley Baseball, he said “I’ve always seen the umps while I played baseball, and it looked like fun.” Ben added that he has friends who are umpires and they encouraged him to start officiating on the diamond.
Ben most enjoys “when I make a call that everyone likes, and they are really happy and the players are happy.”
He adds that he’s enjoyed the camaraderie he’s found in the umpire roster and “getting to know my fellow umpires, my peers. I’ve met a lot of really nice umpires out there.”
Special thanks to Vancouver Canadians for hooking up tickets to a game!
